Xpeng yesterday announced a milestone, with its 1,000,000th vehicle rolling off the production line.

According to its CEO He Xiaopeng, it took Xpeng 82 months to produce its first 500,000 vehicles. However, the journey from 500,000 to 1,000,000 vehicles was completed in 14 months.

A substantial portion of this growth is attributed to the success of the Xpeng Mona M03, which was launched last year. The Mona M03 has contributed one-fifth of Xpeng’s total million-unit sales.

In a separate announcement on November 7, 2025, Xpeng confirmed that deliveries of the Mona M03 had reached 200,000 units, achieving this feat in 14 months.

Among the NEV startups, Li Auto became the first to hit the one-million mark last October. In September this year, Stellantis-backed Leapmotor also crossed the million-unit threshold.

Xiaomi Auto, which only began deliveries last year, has yet to reach one million, but it took roughly 20 months to deliver its first 500,000 vehicles. It should reach its first million faster than any other new carmaker.

Nio still sits just below the million-unit line. As of 31 October 2025, cumulative Nio-group deliveries (including Onvo and Firefly) totalled 913,182 vehicles. With 40,397 cars delivered in October, the company is all but certain to add another 90,000 in November and December, guaranteeing Nio’s entry into the “million club” this year.

The players differ in approach. Li Auto focuses on extended-range EVs; their smaller batteries cut costs, and the ability to run on gasoline eases range anxiety, helping Li Auto become the fastest to a million. Leapmotor is, in many ways, a lower-priced Li Auto.

So far, Nio, Xiaomi, and Xpeng have sold only pure-electric vehicles, making the million-unit milestone harder to reach than for hybrid-heavy rivals like Li Auto and Leapmotor.

Xpeng has already started building extended-range models, and Xiaomi will launch its own range-extended lineup next year. Nio might be the only pure electric vehicle maker left in China.
