As we are walking into May 1, Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) startups are releasing their April delivery numbers. So far, nine startups have made the announcement with Leapmotor taking the lead again delivering more than 40,000 vehicles. Let’s take a closer look below.

Based on the published data, Leapmotor was the only NEV startup who delivered more than 40,000 vehicles in April. From January to April, Leapmotor delivered 128,591 vehicles cumulatively. Currently, the brand has a total of six models on sale, including the T03, C01, C11, C16, B01, and C10.

Xpeng P7+ Ultra Long Range Flagship Edition

In the second place, Xpeng delivered 35,045 vehicles in April, a year-on-year increase of 273%. It is worth noting that this is the sixth consecutive month since November last year that Xpeng has delivered more than 30,000 vehicles. From January to April, Xpeng’s cumulative deliveries were 129,053 vehicles.

In April, Xpeng also launched the 2025 Xpeng X9 and the P7+ Ultra Long Range Max Flagship Edition.

In the third place, Li Auto delivered 33,939 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 31.6%. As of the end of April, Li Auto’s cumulative deliveries were 1,260,675 vehicles. Additionally, Li L6, L7, L8, and L9 were the best-selling SUVs above the 200,000 yuan (27,500 USD) price segment for three consecutive quarters in China.

In the fourth place, Xiaomi’s April delivery performance remained steady compared to March’s 29,000+ number, bringing its 2025 cumulative delivery to more than 97,000 vehicles. Earlier in March, the automaker has raised its annual delivery target from 300,000 to 350,000 vehicles.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi will officially launch its second model, the YU7, in June/July this year. Currently, Xiaomi has two models on sale, namely, the SU7 and SU7 Ultra.

In the fifth place, the Nio Group delivered 23,900 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 53%, of which 19,269 were Nio brand and 4,400 were Onvo brand. For the first four months of this year, the Nio Group delivered 65,994 vehicles. It is worth pointing out that just on April 29, Group’s third brand, Firefly, begun the delivery of its first model in China. Subsequently, Onvo’s second model called the Onvo L90 that was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show is scheduled to be launched in the third quarter. We’ll keep a close eye on how will this impact Nio Group’s market performance.
