BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has sold more than 1.5 million units of its Yuan family models globally, thanks to the popularity of the series’ affordable models.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced this milestone on Weibo today. The Yuan family is one of the main models in BYD’s Dynasty series, and the company’s other product matrix is the Ocean series.
Currently, BYD offers four models in the Yuan family, including the Yuan Plus Smart Driving Edition, Yuan Plus Honor Edition, Yuan Up Smart Driving Edition, and the standard Yuan Up.
The Yuan Plus is BYD’s first global model, already launched in multiple international markets under the name Atto 3.
The Yuan Plus Smart Driving Edition, launched earlier this year, has a starting price range of RMB 115,800 ($16,110) to RMB 145,800; the Yuan Plus Honor Edition, launched in March 2024, has a price range of RMB 119,800 to RMB 147,800.
The starting price range for the Yuan Up Smart Driving Edition is RMB 99,800 to RMB 119,800, while the standard Yuan Up model starts at RMB 96,800 to RMB 119,800.
BYD’s Smart Driving Edition cars are equipped with its God’s Eye Smart Driving System, while the Yuan Plus Smart Driving Edition and Yuan Up Smart Driving Edition feature the entry-level God’s Eye C system.
The Yuan family sold 31,711 units in May, making it the fifth most popular model among BYD’s over 20 models, despite a year-on-year decrease of 21.18 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 13.52 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to May, the Yuan family sold 165,284 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 22.99 percent and contributing 9.37 percent of BYD’s total sales during the same period.
BYD sold 382,476 vehicles in May, up 15.27 percent year-on-year and 0.63 percent month-on-month.
The Song family models sold 74,949 units in May, making it the company’s most popular model.
