BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has filed for the Song L GT, a shooting brake-style vehicle that is expected to become the latest member of the popular Song family.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the latest catalog of models set to be approved for sale yesterday, seeking public feedback, with the BYD Song L GT included.

The public may submit feedback from July 17 to 23. Inclusion in this catalog is the final major regulatory step for a model to be approved for sale in China.

The Song L GT has three pages in the filing, with product model numbers listed as BYD7007BEVA3, BYD7007BEVA4, and BYD7007BEVA5.

The shooting brake-style model is classified as a pure electric sedan in the MIIT catalog, despite BYD currently categorizing the Song L EV as a shooting brake SUV (sport utility vehicle).

BYD7007BEVA5 is a dual-motor model, with a front motor peak power of 160 kW and a rear motor peak power of 230 kW.

It uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by BYD’s battery uniy, FinDreams Battery.

The images in the filing suggest that LiDAR may be standard on the model, thereby enhancing its smart driving capabilities.
