BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) witnessed robust sales growth in Europe in September as its diverse product lineup gained favor among local consumers.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant registered 24,963 new vehicles in Europe in September, marking a 398.0 percent increase from the 5,013 units registered in the same period last year, according to data released today by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
The data covers the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (EU + EFTA + UK).
Within the EU, BYD’s September registrations reached 13,221 units, a 272.1 percent increase from 3,553 units in the same period last year.
BYD’s competitor Tesla saw a decline, with September new vehicle registrations in Europe totaling 39,837 units — a 10.5 percent decrease from 44,502 units in the same period last year.
In the EU, Tesla’s September registrations totaled 25,656 units, down 18.6 percent from 31,535 units in the same period last year.
From January to September, BYD’s new vehicle registrations in Europe reached 120,859 units, a 299.5 percent increase from 30,254 units in the same period last year.
Its new vehicle registrations in the EU for the first nine months reached 80,807 units, a 248.1 percent increase from 23,216 units during the same period last year.
Tesla’s new vehicle registrations in Europe from January to September totaled 173,694 units, a 28.5 percent decrease from 242,976 units during the same period last year.
The US EV maker registered 111,328 new vehicles in the EU from January to September, down 38.7 percent from 181,572 units in the same period last year.
BYD, China’s largest NEV maker, officially entered the European passenger vehicle market in September 2022.
The company sold 396,270 NEVs globally in September, a 5.52 percent year-on-year decline, though this represented a 6.06 percent increase from August.
Overseas NEV sales reached 71,256 units in September, surging 115.85 percent year-on-year but dipping 11.83 percent from August.
