On December 23, BYD announced a collaboration with Mobil to launch the world’s first engine oil series specifically designed for PHEVs tailored to BYD’s DM-i (Dual Mode) hybrid technology, aims to address lubrication challenges faced by PHEVs under specific operating conditions, according to the official introduction.
Compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, PHEV models have a more complex engine operating mode, characterized by frequent starts and stops, short-duration operation at low temperatures, and intermittent operation under high load.
Frequent starts and stops lead to increased engine wear, and the bearings experience instantaneous high loads during mode switching. Low-temperature, short-distance driving generates moisture, increasing the risk of oil emulsification. High-load intermittent operation places higher demands on the stability and cleanliness of the engine oil.

Specifically, the official claimed the 0W-20 grade flagship engine oil has a wear resistance that exceeds industry standards by 50% and the emulsification stability is 2.5 times higher than the standard, addressing the issue of increased moisture generation in hybrid engines during low-temperature, short-distance operation.

In March 2022, BYD ceased the production of gasoline-powered vehicles, focusing instead on BEVs and PHEVs. Its passenger vehicle product portfolio consists of the Dynasty series (i.e. Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Yuan) and the Ocean series (i.e. Dolphin, Seal, Sealion, Seagull), as well as sub-brands targeting the high-end market including Denza, Yangwang, and Fang Cheng Bao.
From January to November 2025, BYD’s cumulative sales in China reached 4.182 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 11.3%. Its overseas sales in the same period is more than 910,000 vehicles, including 159,869 vehicles in Europe, up 276% year-on-year.
As of the end of November, BYD’s global cumulative sales of new energy vehicles is 14.7 million units.
