Fang Cheng Bao officially launched the Tai 7 SUV (sport utility vehicle), competing against models including the GWM (SHA: 601633) Tank 300 Hi4-T and Li Auto‘s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L6.
The BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) sub-brand rolled out the Tai 7 at an event today. As the second model in its Tai series following the Tai 3, it starts at a competitive RMB 179,800 ($25,250).
This price undercuts the Tank 300 Hi4-T and Li L6, both of which start at RMB 249,800.
Specifically, the five-seat SUV offers four variants priced at RMB 179,800, RMB 189,800, RMB 206,800, and RMB 219,800 respectively.
The Tai 7 marks Fang Cheng Bao’s first hybrid SUV with a unibody design, positioning it more as a family-oriented vehicle compared to the brand’s off-road Bao series models.
The Tai 7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
It has a 1.5T engine delivering a peak power of 115 kW (154 hp) and peak torque of 225 Nm.
The two lower-priced variants feature a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration. The electric motor produces a peak power of 200 kW and peak torque of 315 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds or 7.9 seconds.
The two higher-priced variants are dual-motor all-wheel-drive models, both accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Their front motor delivers 160 kW peak power and 260 Nm peak torque, while the rear motor produces 200 kW peak power and 360 Nm peak torque.
The entry-level model features a 26.6-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 135 km. The other three variants utilize a 35.6-kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 170-200 km.
It incorporates a 60 L fuel tank, enabling a CLTC range exceeding 1,300 km when fully fueled and charged.
The highest-priced Tai 7 variant features BYD’s God’s Eye B smart driving system with the DiPilot 300 solution, and hardware including a LiDAR sensor.
The three lower-priced variants omit LiDAR, utilizing the God’s Eye C system with the DiPilot 100 solution.
The Tai 7 is the first model to feature BYD’s in-house developed tablet. Announced last month, the tablet enables multi-screen collaboration within the vehicle.
On August 16, 2023, BYD officially launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand as a key initiative to explore the premium off-road market.
Beyond the Tai 7, the brand’s current lineup includes the Bao 5 and Bao 8 hybrid off-road SUVs from the Bao series, along with the Tai 3 compact family SUV from the Tai series.
Fang Cheng Bao sold 16,265 vehicles in August, marking a 233.57 percent year-on-year increase and a 14.70 percent rise from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
This comprised 9,081 Tai 3 units, 5,334 Bao 5 units, and 1,850 Bao 8 units.
