The agreement will see both parties coordinate market activities to encourage wider adoption of marine energy storage systems and support the shipping industry’s shift towards more sustainable operations.

Under the partnership, Corvus Energy is set to act as both the ESS System Partner and Route-to-Market Partner, relying on its expertise in system integration and established customer relationships.

The MoU formalises plans to accelerate product development and increase global market access for energy storage in the shipping industry.

Corvus Energy Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia head Ole Jacob Irgens said: “This MoU represents a significant step forward in our ambition to remain the market leader in high-quality marine battery systems.

“By combining Corvus’ deep maritime understanding and extensive experience in marine battery installations with BYD Energy Storage’s scalability, innovation in LFP technology, and strong global supply chain, we are well positioned to bring new products to market faster and meet the evolving needs of the shipping industry.”

Recently, Corvus Energy announced the launch of Blue Whale NxtGen, a new battery system in its NxtGen product line for marine applications requiring high energy content and density.

The Blue Whale NxtGen features a modular and scalable design, integrated with advanced battery management systems and analytics.

It uses cobalt-free LFP cells with a projected lifespan of up to 15 years and supports a 1C charge/discharge rate, making it suitable for both energy storage and power-intensive operations.

The Blue Whale NxtGen system aims to help shipowners reduce emissions and comply with future regulations. Initial deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
