Grupo Jack: “With BYD we aim to be among the top brands in Argentina”

Grupo Jack has officially opened its new BYD showroom in Puerto Madero and is preparing for a rapid rollout across Greater Buenos Aires.

The regulatory framework has paved the way: Decree 49/2025 set a 0% import duty for electrified vehicles with a FOB value of up to USD 16,000, while Resolution 210/2025 established calls for 50,000 annual import permits. That quota has already been filled for 2025, and on 6 October the process reopened for 2026.

The launch comes with a full line-up and formal pre-sales. Grupo Jack’s network is already announcing new showrooms and sales of the Dolphin Mini (BEV), Yuan Pro (BEV) and Song Pro (PHEV), in parallel with the expansion of sales points.

The message is clear — and Horacio Jack, the Group’s President, highlighted it in his opening speech: “With BYD, we aim to be among the top brands in Argentina.”

The numbers back it up. Even before opening any dealerships, the Chinese giant has already sold over 1,500 units and generated strong market expectations.

A fast-Moving partnership

Not only did sales come in record time — the process of both companies joining forces was also swift.

BYD prioritised experience, geographic presence, and sales volume capacity, focusing on high-traffic areas and locations with strong competition.

“BYD took two years to research the Argentine market and select dealers,” explains Gabriel Cordo Miranda, Director of BYD Jack, in an interview with Mobility Portal.

“They analyse footfall past the showroom, which brands are nearby, and prefer to be where there’s a cluster,” he adds.

The local plan is ambitious: “We’ve been assigned four locations — two in Puerto Madero, one in Villa Luro (Av. Rivadavia) and another in Quilmes.”

Cordo Miranda ties the timing directly to regulation: “The decision to launch was driven 100% by the tariff opening.” The 0% import scheme — capped at a FOB value of USD 16,000 and with a 50,000-unit annual quota — explains the rush to apply, obtain permits and open doors. For 2026, the Government has reopened the call and expects new imports under the same framework.

BYD’s product offer

“BYD presented three models: the Dolphin Mini and Yuan Pro, both fully electric; and the Song Pro, a plug-in hybrid,” recalls Cordo Miranda.

From the Product division, Christian González adds: “The Yuan Pro claims 380 km of range, while the Song Pro DMi offers 100 km of pure electric drive before switching to hybrid mode.” These specs are tailored to local adoption rates and urban/suburban usage.

Internally, the dealership reports short construction timelines (60–120 days, depending on site) and simultaneous openings of two locations in Puerto Madero, alongside activation events and pre-sales campaigns.

The roadmap for showrooms — Puerto Madero/Retiro, Villa Luro, Quilmes — has already been made public.

Regulatory context and market outlook

Cordo Miranda values the regulatory benefit but notes a limitation: “50,000 units per year represent less than 10% of a 600–700,000-unit market; for importers, 25,000 may not be enough.”

In 2025, the quota was fully allocated, and the 2026 call has reignited competition for permits.

Regarding infrastructure, BYD is following a regional pattern: first grow the vehicle base, then densify the charging network.

In the short term, the solution combines home charging (wallbox or portable cable) with reliance on the public AC/DC network for travel.

The strategy promotes BEVs for urban use and PHEVs for longer distances — until more rapid chargers become available.

The dealership expects that urban demand and noticeable fuel savings compared with petrol will drive the initial wave of adoption.

A strategic alliance

During the ceremony, Horacio Jack summed up the spirit of the partnership and the new commercial phase:}

“We opened two showrooms in Puerto Madero in just 60 days and are already planning the next ones. We want each BYD space to be more than a dealership — a meeting point for customers, with experiences, music, and test drives.”

He described the alliance with the Chinese manufacturer as “a perfect match” and announced that the Group aims to add more locations in 2026, in step with BYD’s regional expansion.

“We want to stay close, serve customers well, and demonstrate through action what this new electric era means,” he concluded.
