Goodbye to Tesla and BYD - Ford will unveil its most affordable electric cars to date on August 11

Ford comes with news, and this time it is good, promise! Just when it seemed like the excitement for electric cars was starting to cool down, Ford has once again changed direction by confirming its first model from a new low-cost platform. And it won’t be a futuristic SUV, or anything we’ve seen before, it will be an electric pickup, and not just any pickup. Practical, promising good range, and at a price more than affordable for all budgets. It arrives in 2027 but we’re already going to spoil it for you with everything we know.

More realism and less glamour

For some time now, Ford has been working on a new electric platform with a very clear idea: to make cheaper electric cars, but without them being a toy. To do this, they set up a separate team, almost like a secret unit, led by a former Tesla executive. Their goal: to create a solid base that allows for good cars without the price skyrocketing.

The result?

The first one to be released will be this mid-size pickup, which will arrive in 2027. And with it, several course changes: Ford has canceled the three-row electric SUV it had on the way and has decided to delay its next F-150 Lightning (the so-called T3), which also moves to that same year to make way for this new division (and all of this after revealing they lost approximately 1.3 billion dollars in the second quarter of 2025)

It’s not a response to Tesla. It’s another game.

While Tesla is doing its own thing (robotaxis, compact models, ambitious projects), Ford seems to have chosen a different path. No promises of self-driving cars or doors that open on their own. This pickup aims for something much simpler: to be useful. To carry cargo, to be useful for work, to perform well in daily life.

They have thought about the professional customer, of course, because this pickup is not just for someone who wants a cheap electric car, also for someone who needs a work tool! And that, for Ford, is familiar territory, right? Also, with an improved digital experience, they hope the vehicle not only sells, but keeps generating income once it’s in the customer’s hands.

Why a pickup and not another type of car?

It’s easy, a pickup works, and they know that. The hybrid Maverick has sold itself, and in 2024, 70% of its sales were precisely hybrids. The hybrid F-150 has also given good results, with a 25%. People want options, but without losing performance! And if they can pay less for a car that serves them just as well or better…

Ford knows that an electric pickup can open the door to a huge audience and they can have a product with a lot of potential, it’s very easy!

A platform that allows for much more

The pickup will just be the first. This new base is designed to adapt to all kinds of vehicles. From SUVs to vans, for both individuals and companies. All with the same philosophy: offer what’s fair and necessary, but done right. And all without breaking the bank.

And what about hybrids?

They’re not going away. Ford will use them as a bridge, especially in large models, where a hybrid still makes sense. More range, fewer emissions, and less dependence on the plug. An intermediate step that many drivers appreciate.

Ford has preferred to go back to the beginning: making cars that are useful for real life. This pickup doesn’t come to promise you a future like your ex did, it comes to give you something you can use, something you can afford, and something that actually helps!
