Founder and CEO of Xiaomi Automobile, Lei Jun, shared that his company won’t join the recently heated price war between carmakers in China. He also shed light on the brand’s upcoming YU7 electric SUV pricing. Its final cost will be finalized in 1 – 2 days ahead of the official launch ceremony.
The Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV made headlines after the official presentation held on May 22. The company disclosed lots of details about its first crossover. However, the starting price of this vehicle remained a secret. It sparked rumors about the Xiaomi YU7 pricing for the Chinese market. Some unofficial sources claimed it would cost 235,900 yuan (32,750 USD).
Xiaomi won’t join the price war
Further rumors about the Xiaomi YU7 pricing were triggered by the new round of price war initiated by BYD in late May. A lot of car companies, including Geely, Chery, SAIC, and FAW, launched their limited-time discounts. However, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun said during the investor conference that his company won’t be engaged in price wars.

Lei Jun also clarified that the Xiaomi YU7 won’t be just 20,000 yuan more expensive than the entry-level SU7 sedan. Such wording hints that the YU7 crossover will have a seemingly higher price tag than 235,900 yuan (32,750 USD). CarNewsChina expects the YU7 to undercut the Tesla Model Y. The American crossover currently has a starting price of 263,500 yuan (36,570 USD).
Xiaomi CEO underlined that the price tag of the YU7 SUV will be determined 1 – 2 days ahead of the sales launch ceremony. Currently, the brand’s first SUV began static displays in 56 Xiaomi Auto stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Chengdu. After the 2025 Greater Bay Auto Show, the Xiaomi YU7 will be displayed in 92 cities across China.
