BYD have become the world’s fastest growing car company and have experienced huge sales over the past few years, easily outperforming their closest competition, Tesla. How have BYD become the fastest growing car manufacturer in the world?
BYD(Build Your Dreams) was founded in 1994 by a gentleman named Wang Chuanfu. Their initial focus was on making better batteries than their Japanese neighbors for a range of sectors. Their batteries can be found in everything from cars to rail lines. They have opened more than 30 factory parks around the globe. They entered the automotive market in 2002, all-be-it only in the Chinese market.
By 2003 they were an established automotive manufacturer in China. Once the world began to embrace the EV, no doubt due to the emergence of Tesla, the race was on. While BYD had some market share in China, the rest of the world chose to go for the American alternative and Tesla became the world’s expert in the EV sector. They basically had an iron grip on the market.
However, with a CEO like Elon Musk, that success was never going to last. The cracks have began to surface and the world has grown weary of Musk and therefore Tesla. The Cybertruck was a disaster for Tesla, not to mention the Tesla dealerships being set on fire, not just in America but all over the world. So the market was open and BYD, to their credit, saw an opening and seized it by the throat.
What have BYD made that has the automotive world so excited?
The advancement in the technology sector normally goes hand in hand with the automotive sector. Whenever innovation takes place in the tech sector, it inevitably finds its way into the cars of the day. And this is no different. BYD have launched their new all electric off-road vehicle and what can be found on the roof is truly remarkable. The world has become accustomed to filming every part of our everyday lives to share on social media.
BYD’s new off-road EV will have an optional extra where you can purchase a DJI drone that sits in a dedicated launch pad on the roof. The drone can be activated by the press of a button and shoots into the air to film the car and your surroundings. It can be controlled via the cars infotainment screen or via an app. Not to mention you can launch the drone while on the move. Once filming is complete the drone returns and automatically charges on the launch pad.
The automotive world is doing its best to compete with BYD and Tesla. DJI is a Chinese drone company that was responsible for the surge in drone purchases and advancement of drone technology that has made it so accessible for the everyday person. To add the drone to your new BYD purchase, it will set back an additional $2,200. While only available in China for now, the new car with its drone will no doubt make its way to America sooner rather than later.
How far can companies like BYD take the technology in the EV sector?
Tesla and their flagship cars are not being accepted as Musk was hoping. Therefore BYD have become the world’s leader in the EV sector. They are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. The world is fast approaching a future where you will not be able to buy a traditional internal combustion engine powered car. Some countries have already began to ban the import of traditional gasoline powered engines, namely Ethiopia. The question is, what will the next BYD design have that will shock and amaze the world?
