Wait times for this Chinese EV are so long that the CEO is recommending Tesla to buyers instead

After receiving record-shattering orders after the Xiaomi Yu7 went live, the CEO recommends that people turn to alternative Chinese EV brands or even its biggest rival in the Tesla Model Y, if they don’t want to wait.

Sharing is caring, right?

Well, that seems to be the ethos coming from the Xiaomi factory, as it’s clear that the CEO isn’t hellbent on monopolizing the EV market and is happy to slot in alongside Tesla.

Instead of overthrowing everyone with the mass sales of the Xiaomi YU7, the Chinese EV makers claim that there are enough electric vehicles to go around.

Chinese EV makers are recommending Tesla as wait times continue to soar

The announcement of the Xiaomi YU7 sent shockwaves through the Chinese EV market.

In just three minutes, sales averaged over 1,000 units per second, racking up a wild 200,000 cars sold in 180 seconds.

But the Tesla Model Y rival will take some time to ship.

Xiaomi expects deliveries to start by the end of the year, but some drivers could be waiting the maximum ’56 weeks’ for their Standard version, which will take them into July of next year.

In the meantime, CEO Lei Jun has advertised his competitors.

“If you need to buy a car quickly, other China-produced new energy vehicles are pretty good,” he said.

“For example, you can check out the Xiaopeng G7, which will be released tomorrow, and the Ideal i8, which will be released at the end of the month.”

But he also doffed his cap to Tesla, too.

“The Model Y is a great car, and Tesla also announced a number of promotions yesterday, so you might want to consider it.

It’s not the first time that the CEO has praised his competition, too, even honoring Tesla on another occasion, highlighting the FSD capabilities.

What is Xiaomi waiting for?

Well, it’s not like Xiaomi isn’t trying. In fact, the Chinese EV maker shipped its record number of vehicles in July, surpassing 30,000 units in one month.

The factory is even one of the most efficient assembly lines on the planet, making a car every 76 seconds when in full swing.

But with focus split between the Xiaomi YU7, the SU7 Ultra, and its many other responsibilities as the ‘Apple’ of China, orders are expected to take some time.

“We’ll work hard to increase production capacity, but the queues are indeed long, so we ask for your patience,” Jun added.

Jun intends for the company to deliver 300,000 cars this year, as per his New Year’s resolutions.
