The updated Wuling Hongguang Mini EV electric city car was officially revealed in China as it nears market launch. This urban driver offers cute circular headlights and five doors. The new EV will soon enter the domestic market to boost the model’s sales.
The Hongguang Mini EV is an almost pocket-sized urban electric vehicle. Its first generation was launched by the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in 2020. This EV became the bestselling car in China in 2022. According to Wuling, it has already launched four generations of the Mini EV. However, two of them (Macaron and Gameboy) are special editions of the first-gen model.
The real second-gen Wuling Mini EV is a five-door city car launched in February 2025. Offered with a starting price of 44,800 yuan (6,545 USD), it turned into a success with registrations reaching 61,506 units. However, this EV saw a major sales drop in January, with 7,133 units sold (according to China EV DataTracker). Soon, Wuling will make an attempt to boost sales once again by launching the updated variant of the Mini EV.
More about the updated Wuling Hongguang Mini EV
Wuling prefers to call the updated model “the fifth generation” in press materials (including official images and a cute video clip). However, it is just an updated variant of the second-gen car. The updated city car was revealed in official images with five doors and updated styling. It has cute circular headlights with an LED strip between them. Such styling strongly reminds us of the refreshed Geely Panda Mini launched in April 2025.
The updated five-door Wuling Mini EV became slightly larger due to adjusted bumpers. Its dimensions are 3268/1520/1575 mm with a wheelbase of 2,190 mm. To be precise, this EV is 12 mm longer, 10 mm wider, and 3 mm narrower than the ongoing model. The “new” Hongguang Mini EV offers three body colors: gray, green, and beige. Strangely, no classic white and black colors are offered.
In December 2025, Wuling applied for a sales license for a two-door variant of the updated Mini EV city car. Its length, width, and height are 3043, 1520, and 1590 mm, respectively. Both variants of this vehicle have a 30 kW (42 hp) electric motor in the rear axle. There is no information about the battery and range. The Mini EV’s interior offers four seats.
CarNewsChina expects the updated Wuling Hongguang Mini EV to launch in China shortly with a price range similar to the ongoing model. It means the five-door hatchback will cost approximately 44,800 – 50,800 yuan (6,545 – 7,420 USD).
