China has a new flagship EV en route that will become the largest electric SUV on the market later this year.
Meet the NIO ES9, a new flagship electric SUV
In the latest list of road motor vehicle manufacturers and products released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), we got our first look at several new, exciting EVs set to hit the market soon.
One of them is Nio’s new flagship SUV, the ES9. The filing reveals that the ES9 is 5,365 mm long, 2,029 mm wide, and 1,870 mm tall, making it the largest electric SUV.
Nio already has the biggest electric SUV in China, the ES8, measuring 5,280 mm long, 2,010 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall, but the ES9 is expected to sit above it, featuring the company’s latest tech, smart driving features, and more.
According to CnEVPost, NIO’s co-founder and president, Qin Lihong, first mentioned the flagship electric SUV last May, saying the company would launch it in the first half of 2026.

The ES9 will offer the same advanced tech as the ET9, its premium luxury sedan. Starting at RMB 768,000 ($110,000), the ET9 is NIO’s most expensive and luxurious electric vehicle. It’s also among the most expensive from a Chinese brand.

Nio’s new electric SUV will be equipped with CATL batteries. It will also be equipped with dual motors, offering a combined 520 kW (697 hp).
Although the filing doesn’t reveal much else, you can see in the images that the ES9 looks about the same as the ES8, with an ultra-long-range LiDAR mounted on the roof.
