Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) will return to China’s annual import expo next month following its absence last year.

The American electric vehicle (EV) maker announced the plan today on Weibo, sharing that it will appear at Booth A3-03 in Hall 2.1 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

Tesla’s Cybercab robotaxi will make its Asia-Pacific debut at the event, the company said on Weibo.

The upcoming 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) will run from November 5-10.

Tesla attended China’s inaugural CIIE in November 2018 and participated consecutively for six editions through 2023.

The 7th CIIE last year saw Tesla’s rare absence, while automakers including General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz participated.

Tesla unveiled the Cybercab in the US in October 2024, with CEO Elon Musk stating the goal was to produce at least 2 million units annually.

The company planned to mass-produce the Cybercab next year, and the robotaxi was recently spotted undergoing public road testing in the US for the first time.

As Tesla attends this year’s CIIE, its Chinese competitors Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will hold its annual AI Day event on November 5, expected to showcase advancements in physical AI — potentially involving robotaxis.

Tesla’s sales performance in China has been sluggish this year, and it needs fresh momentum to capture attention.

The company delivered 432,704 vehicles in China from January to September, marking a 5.97 percent year-on-year decline, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Tesla saw year-on-year delivery declines in seven out of the first nine months of this year.
