Tesla, a US-based electric vehicle and energy company, is in talks with Chinese suppliers to procure equipment worth RMB 20 billion (~$2.9 billion) for PV cell and module manufacturing in the US, according to Reuters. According to Reuters, potential suppliers include Suzhou Maxwell Technologies, Shenzhen S.C New Energy Technology, and Laplace Renewable Energy Technology. Some of the equipment, including screen-printing production lines, will require export approval from Chinese regulators. Suppliers were reportedly asked to deliver the machinery before autumn, with two sources saying the shipments would be sent to Texas. Reuters said Tesla aims to add 100 GW of solar capacity in the US, while job postings indicate a target of 100 GW of solar manufacturing from raw materials on US soil before the end of 2028. Most of the planned capacity is expected to support Tesla’s own operations, while part of it may be used to power SpaceX satellites.
