Tesla has officially begun rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) software version 13.2.9 in China, starting with the Model Y Refresh. This marks a significant milestone in the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s push to bring its advanced driver-assistance system to one of its largest markets.
Multiple users on Chinese social networks posted screenshots showing the new FSD version live on their Model Y vehicles. One user shared some of these posts with Tesla North.
FSD 13.2.9 includes Tesla’s signature city navigation capabilities, smart summoning, traffic light and stop sign recognition, and supervised AI-driven steering. According to one user, the update is available on vehicles running firmware version 2025.14.200 and above.
The release of version 13.2.9 follows a rocky FSD launch in China earlier this year. Tesla started offering free trials of FSD to Chinese users in March, only to halt the rollout days later due to pending regulatory approval. FSD deployment in China is now resuming — and with a more refined 13.2.9 build, signalling Tesla’s commitment to the market and possibly its progress with local authorities.
Tesla is currently only offering FSD on newer vehicles in China with Hardware 4 (HW4), but the company plans to expand to older Hardware 3 (HW3) vehicles in the future. Screenshots of the FSD interface in the update appear to include subtle UI changes specific to Chinese regulations, potentially hinting at it being a localized version of FSD for China.
According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the automaker trained FSD to drive on Chinese roads using publicly available videos on the internet. Tesla has also partnered with Chinese tech giant Baidu to improve FSD navigation in the country.
What’s more, the FSD 13.2.9 release includes some quality of life updates like a toggle for enabling/disabling pass-through USB charging when the car is off (provided the battery allows for it).
