Tesla Sees Rising Model Y Orders in China, Delivery Waits Now Up to a Month

Tesla‘s demand for the Model Y in China has increased over the past weeks, leading estimated delivery times for several trims to increase on Thursday, as the US brand registers weekly sales records in the third quarter.

Delivery times for both five-seat trims — the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Model Y Long Range — have increased to up to one month.

Previously at 1-3 weeks, the delivery time for the RWD variant is now between 2 and 4 weeks.

The standard version of Tesla‘s refreshed Model Y, launched earlier this year, is priced from 263,500 yuan — equivalent to $37,100. The Long Range version starts at 313,500 yuan ($44,100).

After first teasing it in July, the EV maker launched its six-seater Model Y L in China late last month.

Orders for the model opened in mid-August, at a starting price of 339,000 yuan ($47,550), and deliveries started in September.

October availability for the model has sold out for October across China last week.

As of Thursday, and according to Tesla‘s website, orders placed are expected to be delivered in November.

According to CEO Elon Musk on X, the model will not be produced in the US until late 2026, “might not ever.”

The three-row SUV features a top speed of 201 km/h and has a range of 830 km, as does the most recent variant of the Model 3, with the longest range yet, for which Tesla has already cut prices in China.

The standard RWD Model 3 is priced from 235,500 yuan (about $33,150), while the Long Range version recently launched is priced from 259,500 yuan ($36,400) — now down by 10,000 yuan.

According to the company’s website, all trims of the Model 3 have an estimated delivery time of 4—6 weeks (about a month and a half).

While both the Model Y and Model 3 are produced in Tesla‘s Gigafactory in Shanghai, its flagship Model X and Model S are shipped from the US.

As trade tensions escalated earlier this year, the company halted imports of the models and limited sales to existing inventory.

Tesla‘s weekly registrations have been increasing week over week as the end of the quarter approaches.

In the first two weeks of September, the company consecutively registered its best week of the quarter.

From September 8 to 14, Tesla sold 15,350 vehicles in China, from which 9,460 were Model Ys, 1,030 were Model Y Ls and 4,860 were Model 3s.
