Tesla’s upcoming Model Y L has been spotted fully uncovered in China, marking the first time the new six-seat variant of the popular all-electric SUV has been seen without camouflage. The sighting, shared by Tesla watcher @Tslachan on X, shows multiple Model Y L units being transported on a car carrier in silver, with subtle design changes compared to the standard Model Y.
Tesla announced the Model Y L last month in China, where it will initially launch. The SUV is larger than the regular Model Y, stretching nearly five meters in length with a 3.04-meter wheelbase. This added size makes room for a six-seat configuration, aimed at families looking for more space without stepping up to the larger (and significantly more expensive) Model X.
Production of the Model Y L is slated to begin at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory this fall. While it is currently only expected to be available in China, Tesla will likely consider rolling it out to other markets if it proves popular.
This is not the first time the Model Y L has been seen in the wild. The vehicle was previously spotted testing in both China and Germany, though those sightings featured partial camouflage. Today’s sighting marks the first time we’re seeing the vehicle’s final production design in full.

According to filings Tesla submitted to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Model Y L will deliver 751 km of CLTC-rated range from an 82 kWh LG NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery pack. For power, it will have a dual-motor setup producing 142 kW up front and 198 kW at the rear.
The Model Y L was unveiled alongside the new Model 3+, which Tesla launched in China earlier this week with a record 830 km of CLTC-rated range. With both of these new models, Tesla is looking to further strengthen its lineup in China, the world’s largest EV market, ahead of what is expected to be a busy second half of 2025.
