Tesla’s new six-seat Model Y L continues to post massive demand in China, with the extended-wheelbase variant now fully sold out through January 2026. Estimated delivery dates for new orders have officially slipped into February 2026, according to updated guidance on Tesla’s online configurator and data shared by well-known industry tracker @Tslachan on X.
This marks a jump from the Model Y L’s previous 4–8 week delivery window, which had remained unchanged since mid-November. Tesla originally launched the Model Y L in China back in August, starting at 339,000 yuan (about $48,000 USD), with initial deliveries beginning in early September. The family-focused variant — exclusive to the Chinese market — features a six-seat configuration and a longer wheelbase, making it Tesla’s first true people-mover. It immediately sparked strong interest, with delivery estimates slipping into December as early as October.

Now, the Model Y L appears to have maintained that momentum, with production booked out all the way to February 2026. This aligns with what we’re seeing across Tesla’s broader lineup in China. Earlier this week, all Model Y trims produced at Gigafactory Shanghai had their estimated delivery windows pushed into 2026, indicating that Tesla has already sold out its remaining Chinese Model Y production capacity for the rest of the year.
Strong Model Y demand is also reflected in Tesla’s sales results. The automaker saw a notable surge in China last month, with Giga Shanghai–made EV sales climbing 9.9% year-over-year to 86,700 units. Even in China’s ultra-competitive EV landscape — where more affordable models like the BYD Seagull dominate overall volume — the Model Y continues to rank among the country’s top new energy vehicles.
With the Model Y L now unavailable until February 2026, Tesla’s China lineup shows no sign of cooling off. For a variant exclusive to one market, the Model Y L is quickly becoming one of Tesla’s most in-demand vehicles worldwide.
