Tesla has officially launched the new Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in China, offering the most driving range of any Tesla SUV ever sold in the country. The new variant delivers up to 821 km of range on the CLTC test cycle — the longest range of any Model Y to date.
Priced at 288,500 yuan (about $40,500 USD), the Model Y Long Range RWD sits below the dual-motor Long Range AWD in Tesla’s lineup while providing a remarkable balance of performance, range, and affordability. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and is powered by a 78.4 kWh battery pack.
This new variant is almost certainly the “Model Y+” spotted in Chinese regulatory filings last month, which listed a range of around 800 km. While Tesla lists it as the “Long Range RWD” on its online configurator, it could still carry “Model Y+” badging on the vehicle itself — similar to how the Model 3+, which launched in China earlier this year, is branded as the “Model 3 Long Range RWD” online but has a “Model 3+” badge on the rear. We’ll know for sure when deliveries begin in about two weeks.

With an EPA-equivalent range of roughly 357 miles — the same as the recently renamed Model Y “Premium” RWD that starts at $44,990 in the U.S. — Tesla’s latest SUV is designed to appeal to range-conscious buyers in China while maintaining competitive pricing. At just over $40,000 USD, it’s one of the most energy- and cost-efficient electric SUVs in its class.
The Model Y Long Range RWD joins Tesla’s growing Chinese lineup, which also includes the Model Y L — a longer, six-seat variant tailored for families that has seen demand surge in recent months. The new addition should further boost Tesla’s sales momentum in the region as competition from domestic EV makers intensifies.
