Tesla China today officially launched the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version of its popular Model Y SUV, expanding the lineup to four variants. Priced starting at 288,500 yuan (40,400 USD), this new model boasts a CLTC range of 821 km (510 miles), making it the longest-range Model Y available.
The introduction of the Long Range RWD Model Y brings the full Model Y series in China to four options:
- Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) from 263,500 yuan (36,900 USD)
- Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) from 288,500 yuan (40,400 USD)
- Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) from 313,500 yuan (43,900 USD)
- Model Y L (Six-seater version) from 339,000 yuan (47,500 USD)
In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4797mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1624mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2890mm. An exterior feature is the adoption of Tesla’s patented diffuse reflection technology at the rear, which is expected to become a key identifier for the new model.

Inside, the new Model Y continues with the family-style interior, featuring a standard 15.4-inch front touchscreen and an 8-inch rear touchscreen, both supporting Bluetooth connectivity. Passengers can enjoy music, movies, and games from any seat, as well as control seat heating.

Under the hood, the Long Range RWD Model Y is equipped with a 78.4 kWh LG ternary lithium battery pack, enabling its 821 km CLTC range. Power comes from a single rear-wheel-drive motor with a peak output of 225 kW (302 hp), allowing for a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h.
While the new variant commands a 25,000 yuan (3,500 USD) premium over the entry-level model, offering improved range, other specifications remain largely unchanged. Notably, the audio system, a point of contention among some consumers, remains the same as the entry-level version, featuring only nine speakers. This has drawn criticism from netizens, with some expressing their dissatisfaction directly to Tesla China Vice President Grace Tao on Weibo.
