Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has commenced deliveries of the Model Y L in China, following the launch of this six-seat SUV (sport utility vehicle) late last month.
«The first nationwide deliveries of the Model Y L have officially begun,» Tesla announced today on Weibo.
Chinese customers who currently order the Model Y L are expected to receive delivery in October, according to information on Tesla’s China website.
Tesla launched the Model Y L in China on August 19, adding this six-seat SUV as a new variant to the Model Y lineup alongside the five-seat versions.
The Model Y L starts at RMB 339,000 ($47,460) in China. The two variants of the five-seat Model Y — rear-wheel drive and long-range all-wheel drive — start at RMB 263,500 and RMB 313,500 respectively, with current estimated delivery wait times of 1-3 weeks after ordering.
The Model Y L features an 82.0-kWh ternary lithium battery pack from South Korea’s LG Energy Solution (LGES), delivering a CLTC range of 751 kilometers — 1 kilometer longer than the five-seat Model Y long range’s 750-kilometer range.
The five-seat Model Y rear-wheel drive features a 62.5-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack from CATL (SHE: 300750), delivering a CLTC range of 593 kilometers.
The five-seat Model Y long-range all-wheel drive features a 78.4-kWh battery pack from LGES.
The Model Y L measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm.
By comparison, the five-seat Model Y measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The commencement of Model Y L deliveries is expected to boost Tesla’s sales in China.
Last week, Tesla saw insurance registrations in China reach 12,500 units, a 21.36 percent increase from the previous week’s 10,300.
Tesla’s August sales in China are currently unavailable. Its July retail sales in China totaled 40,617 units, down 12.14 percent from 46,227 units in the same period last year and down 33.94 percent from 61,484 units in June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
