Chinese electric car company BYD is pushing ahead into Europe by launching its premium Denza brand in the region, despite rising trade tensions.

BYD Brings Luxury Denza Brand to Europe

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD launched on Monday its premium Denza brand in Europe, aiming to support its expansion in the region and compete with top-end German manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes. Sales of Denza - once a 50:50 joint venture with Mercedes and now fully owned by BYD - accounted for just over 3% of the group's total sales. The group's special adviser for Europe, Alfredo Altavilla, said Denza would be the technological forerunner for the group.

The Seal 06 wagon is slightly larger than the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan, which starts at RMB 99,800 ($13,800).

BYD Seal 06 DM-i wagon is a 4.85-meter family driver that can enter European markets. It has an e-motor for 215 hp and EV range of 83 km.

China giant BYD announced on Thursday it is launching its fully electric compact SUV Atto 2 in Europe and the UK.

The Denza Z9 GT isn't just an absurdly powerful wagon, it also can slide its way into parallel parking spaces.

BYD said on Sunday it sold 300,538 vehicles in January, marking a 47.5% increase from a year earlier. Of these, 296,446 were passenger vehicles.
