Chinese automaker BYD has launched its first pickup truck, debuting a luxury plug-in hybrid in Mexico to compete with global rivals in China’s second-largest market for auto exports.

An interesting addition to the plug-in hybrid pickup segment is the new BYD Shark that has just been launched in Mexico.

Electric-vehicle maker BYD unveiled its Chinese-made Shark pickup truck in Mexico on Tuesday.

The Shark is currently only available in Mexico and BYD is not eyeing entry into the U.S. market, Reuters reported, citing the company's regional chief Stella Li.

BYD Shark, the Chinese automaker’s new energy vehicle pickup truck, officially launched in Mexico. The BYD Shark starts at $53,400.
