Plug-in hybrids priced from 79,800 yuan ($11,014) have made up the bulk of BYD's sales in the past three years

BYD has launched a new hybrid powertrain capable of traveling more than 2,000 kilometers on a single charge and fuel fill-up. Debuting in the Qin L and Seal 06 sedans, this innovation addresses range anxiety and sets a new benchmark in the EV market.

China's BYD unveiled its fifth-generation plug-in hybrid technology, achieving record-low fuel consumption and a 2,100 km range.

NEVs are now mainstream in the country, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu claimed on Tuesday, citing official figures.

“While new launches should boost wholesale volume, we would monitor whether it could spark another round of price competition,” Morgan Stanley said.

According to BYD’s chairman Wang Chuanfu, the new plug-in hybrid technology can offer a driving range of up to 2,100 kilometres with a fully charged battery and a full gasoline tank.

The longer range means some of BYD’s dual-mode plug-in electric hybrid cars can cover the equivalent of New York to Miami, Munich to Madrid, or Beijing to Guangzhou on a single charge and a full tank of gas.
