Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD is rapidly expanding its presence in Southeast Asia. The company plans to establish new assembly plants in Cambodia and Indonesia to complement its existing facility in Rayong, Thailand. BYD is also growing its dealership network and introducing more competitively priced models in the region.

The M6 is the first MPV model launched by BYD in the Indonesian market and the first all-electric MPV in the local market.

Aside from easing local content rules, the government's EV investment scheme compels foreign makers to make good on their promise to build local factories, a senior official says.

BYD recently officially launched its newest product, the Multi Purpose Electric Vehicle (MPEV) M6, for its first time in Indonesia, at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2024 (GIIAS).
