MUNICH (Reuters) -China's No. 1 automaker BYD will make its EVs for sale in Europe locally within three years, helping it avoid EU tariffs, while plug-in hybrids should dominate its European sales in the short term, a top executive said on Monday. "We are training ourselves to be more European in production," executive vice president, Stella Li, BYD's No. 2 executive, told Reuters at the IAA Mobility car show in Munich. The EU imposed tariffs on Chinese-made EVs last year because it believed China's automakers benefited from government subsidies.

BMW said its iX3, the first model in its all-electric Neue Klasse series which was launched earlier in September, will be sold in Europe from March 2026 at a price of 68,900 euros ($80,700). Franco-Italian carmaker Stellantis will no longer exclusively produce EVs as part of its target through 2030, Jean-Philippe Imparato, head of enlarged Europe and European brands, said. MUNICH (Reuters) -Major automakers showcased their latest models at the Munich car show on Monday, unveiling new EVs and lower-cost models as Europe's auto sector fights crises ranging from tariff hikes to rising costs and rivalry with Chinese firms on their home turf. With many auto companies concerned over Europe's tough-to-meet carbon emissions targets for 2035, several firm said they would widen their production focus rather than restrict themselves to electric or other alternative-fuel vehicles. European automakers at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, running until Friday, also face sinking sales in China, the biggest single market for Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

MUNICH (Reuters) -Major automakers will showcase their latest models at Munich's car show on Monday as Europe's automotive sector faces crises ranging from U.S. tariff hikes to costly electrification and the expansion of Chinese automakers on their home turf. Aside from a product blitz to counter Chinese models being pushed to European consumers, including by BYD, Changan and GAC, domestic firms will focus on lobbying to persuade the European Union to reconsider its 2035 ban on combustion-engine cars. Attention will also be on U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on European-made cars.
