SHANGHAI (Reuters) -China's BYD on Tuesday launched its latest generation of a plug-in hybrid technology that achieves a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 litres per 100 km (62.1 miles) on depleted batteries. BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu unveiled the technology while speaking at an event in Xian, the capital of Shaanxi province, the site of the company's first automaking factory after it acquired Qinchuan Automobile Co in 2003. With a fully charged battery and a full gasoline tank, the technology can ensure a driving range of more than 2,000 kilometers.

The BYD Seagull electric vehicle might help the Chinese automaker dominate Europe. BYD Europe aims to triple its European market by 2025.

Usually the car before it is launched will conduct road tests shrouded in camouflage, especially the completely unidentified model.

BYD officially launched the latest plug-in hybrid sedan (PHEV), Qin L DM-i, in Xian, China on May 28, 2024. The launch also marks the debut of BYD's fifth-generation DM (DM 5.0) technology used in the car.
