BYD launches the Dolphin Surf in Europe starting at €19,990, challenging rivals with affordability and advanced tech like the Blade battery.

BEIJING (Reuters) -China's electric vehicle giant BYD said on Wednesday it sold 213,325 vehicles with smart assisted driving features in April, accounting for almost half of its total sales of such vehicles as of end-April. More than 57% of BYD cars sold in April had come with smart assisted driving features, according to Reuters calculation.

BYD Co. is raising the stakes in Europe’s race for cheaper electric vehicles with the European launch of the Dolphin Surf, a fully-electric hatchback that will sell for less than €23,000 ($26,100).

The Dolphin Surf, a longer version of the Seagull, China’s best-selling EV in April, will increase BYD’s portfolio in Europe to eight full-electric cars.
