On August 22, the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture announced that its 8 millionth MPV, the Starlight 730, rolled off the production line in China, making it the first Chinese automaker to achieve this milestone. Currently, SGMW’s MPV models on the market include the Jia Chen, Hongguang, Zhengcheng, and Kaijie, with the very first model being the Wuling Hongguang, which was launched in 2010.

SGMW’s 8 millionth MPV rolled off the production line ceremony.

Specifically, both the left-hand drive and right-hand drive of the Wuling Starlight 730 rolled off the production line, for the domestic and overseas markets, respectively. The Wuling Starlight 730 will officially unveil at the 2025 Chengdu Auto Show later this month.

It is worth pointing out that earlier on July 23, SGMW debuted the RHD variant of the Wuling Starlight 730, also known as the Wuling Cortez Darion overseas, at the Indonesia International Auto Show. The official launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.

The Wuling Starlight 730 will be available in three powertrain options: BEV, PHEV, and ICE.

  • BEV: a 100 kW (134 hp) electric motor, 54.5 kWh and 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs, 450 km and 500 km CLTC ranges, respectively
  • PHEV: a 78 kW (105 hp) 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, a 150 kW (201 hp) electric motor, 20.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, 100 km CLTC pure electric range
  • ICE: a 130 kW (174 hp) 1.5T engine, matched with a CVT

The body dimensions measure 4910/ 1850/1770 mm (l/w/h), with a 2910 mm wheelbase.

For the appearance, the Wuling Xingguang 730 features two design variations for the BEV and PHEV/ICE variants, primarily distinguished by their front fascias. The BEV adopts a closed front face, paired with a wide black center stripe and a trapezoidal grille at the bottom. On the contrary, the other two variants come with a large trapezoidal grille.
