PowerCell Sweden AB is stepping up its game in China, expanding its strategic partnership with Robert Bosch GmbH to speed up the rollout of hydrogen fuel cell solutions. Under a new agreement signed in June 2025, Bosch is acquiring extended rights—valued at €6 million—to customize PowerCell’s advanced S3 fuel cell stack specifically for China’s fast-moving automotive industry. But it doesn’t stop there—this collaboration goes beyond cars, branching out into areas like backup power and industrial mobility.
Fuel cell tech gets local with a global punch
China’s going full throttle on cutting carbon and electrifying transportation, and this partnership couldn’t be landing at a better time. By combining PowerCell’s PEM fuel cell technology with Bosch’s well-rooted local manufacturing capabilities, the two companies are putting together a playbook built for speed, scale, and sustainability. The plan is pretty straightforward: localize production, drive down costs, and deliver zero-emission technology that actually moves the needle—in vehicles and beyond.
A boost for hydrogen adoption across industries
This move isn’t just about meeting demand in China’s EV market. It’s also a big step toward strengthening the country’s broader hydrogen infrastructure. The partnership is set to fuel momentum across several markets and applications, from transportation to industrial uses. It’s a smart alignment with China’s long-term hydrogen strategy—and a clear signal that fuel cell technology is shifting from promise to reality.
