Owner playfully renames BYD logo to 'Burn Your Dick' on popular electric car

10th May 2025 – (Hong Kong) A motorist in Hong Kong recently came across a popular BYD Seal mid-size sedan electric car, where the owner had humorously altered the logo from “Build Your Dream” to “Burn Your Dick,” sparking a social media frenzy.

BYD, the Chinese automotive giant, outshone Elon Musk’s Tesla in terms of revenue last year, surpassing the $100 billion mark with a range of electric and hybrid vehicles that captivate consumers with cutting-edge features.

Based in Shenzhen, BYD disclosed revenue of 777 billion RMB ($107 billion) for the fiscal year ending on December 31, exceeding expectations compared to the estimated 766 billion RMB. In contrast, Tesla’s 2024 revenue stood at $97.7 billion. The company’s net income surged by 34% year-on-year to 40.3 billion RMB, surpassing analyst projections of 39.5 billion RMB.

BYD has rapidly ascended to the pinnacle of China’s automobile market, which stands as the world’s largest and most competitive in the realm of electric vehicles. This year, BYD introduced a groundbreaking ecosystem enabling EVs to charge 400 kilometres in just five minutes and rolled out advanced driver assistance technology even in its entry-level models. This success has propelled its shares to record highs, with BYD’s Hong Kong-listed stock escalating by approximately 51% this year.

Comparing BYD and Tesla in numbers, BYD sold a similar number of EVs as Tesla in 2024 — 1.76 million versus 1.79 million. However, factoring in all other passenger hybrid car sales, BYD emerges as a significantly larger entity. Its total deliveries in the previous year surged to 4.27 million, nearly matching Ford Motor’s output.
