Not BYD, not Xiaomi ― Chinese carmaker brings AI driving to the UK for the first time

It’s no surprise that in recent years, Artificial Intelligence has grown, developed and gained more and more space in various branches of many industries sectors and also in people’s daily lives. In the automotive sector, a Chinese company is making history with the launch of a model with AI driving technology — and no, we are not talking about the giants BYD and Xiaomi.  Discover more about this car model and which company we’re talking about.

Chinese automaker introduces AI-Powered coupe SUV abroad

Although the automotive market already has several autonomous and intelligent solutions, such as cars that drive from one point to another in the city without the need for a driver, the direct use of AI with human interaction is still a fresh novelty for the automotive sector, and the Chinese company XPeng did not waste time in developing a car model that featured this capability.

The model we are talking about is the G6 Electric, a coupe SUV launched by the NEV maker, XPeng in June 2023 in China at a price of 29,000 USD. The car had a good sales performance in its first 2 years, surpassing the mark of 90,000 units sold and becoming one of the brand’s main cars in the international market.

The G6 has a range of up to 570km and is the first model from XPeng to use the SEPA 2.0 platform, which enables optimization in the vehicle’s performance. The interior of the car is also impressive, with the main focus on comfort and high-quality ergonomics, providing a performance that is both sporty and technologically intelligent.

AI-Powered XPeng G6 launches in UK, targets growing EV market

It’s no coincidence that in 2025 the brand decided to officially launch the G6 in the UK. The model, which had already been presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2024, had its sales launched in the United Kingdom at the beginning of this year, with plans to open several stores.

The launch of the G6 in the United Kingdom represents an intelligent move by XPeng within the goal of expanding its global presence, gaining spaces that were until now more associated with other Chinese automakers that are better known in the West, such as BYD. Despite being a relatively young company, XPeng has already gained relevance in the electric sector, competing in popular segments such as SUVs and sedans.

Also, with the inclusion of AI-driving technology in the interaction between human and car, XPeng innovates beyond traditional vehicle control systems. Through a voice-activated Avatar, the use of AI while driving is facilitated —  and safer — and the system itself is capable of adapting according to the situations faced.

XPeng takes first steps towards a technological automotive evolution

It has always been a matter of time before we started to see the application of AI in conjunction with driving experience, especially because the automotive sector is known for constantly developing and reaching new levels in terms of technological improvements. But it’s worth noting that the AI-driving system does not have the autonomy to make decisions in place of the driver, which is even in accordance with the current regulations in the United Kingdom. This experience still requires the driver to be attentive and ready to deal with the multiple scenarios that may arise — the system comes more as a facilitator for that.

It is difficult to conjecture all the applications that AI can have in the automotive sector, but XPeng has already taken the first step towards the infinite possibilities and advantages that the system can offer. For those who love technology and automobiles, it will be an interesting evolution to follow.
