Mazda’s Sleek New Electric SUV Is Coming to China — But Will the US Miss Out?

After a failed attempt to introduce an electric vehicle in the United States, Mazda is now introducing an electric SUV for the Chinese market instead.

Mazda has revealed the first-ever images of the EZ-60, an electric SUV that the brand has partnered with Changan to make. Changan Automobile is a Chinese car manufacturer that has been in operation since the 1860s and is now considered one of the largest automotive groups in China. This appears to be a matchup made in heaven, but will the US ever get a chance to buy the sleek and handsome EZ-60?

What We Know About the Mazda EZ-60

Mazda and Changan are long-time partners, previously releasing the EZ-6 sedan. Now, the two have unveiled the EZ-60, which incorporates the same elements of the EZ-6 into a larger SUV. Both vehicles are based on the Deepal S07, a Changan vehicle with an electric option.

The Mazda EZ-60 was initially revealed as a concept car known as “Arata” at the Beijing Motor Show last year, according to Drive. It looks almost identical, featuring a sleek, round body shape, an illuminated LED strip that highlights its grille and glowing logo, and cameras instead of traditional sideview mirrors. Overall, it’s a minimalist yet beautiful design that blends new EV designs with Mazda’s signature sporty, rounded style.

There are currently no details available about the EZ-60’s performance. It’s likely very similar to the Deepal L07 in terms of its powertrain. The car industry is expecting to hear more about the E-60 during the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, 2025.

Is the Mazda EZ-60 Coming to the United States?

The Mazda EZ-60 is a sleek and appealing EV that’s said to be competitive with the Tesla Model Y, but the United States may be missing out.

The EZ-60 is expected to arrive in Chinese markets later in 2025, followed by a global launch in late 2025 or early 2026. But what countries are included in the global launch? That’s currently unclear, although it’s likely coming to Europe. Drive predicts it could come to Australia as well. When it comes to America, however, the car industry predicts that the Mazda EZ-60 will not be available.

Mazda attempted to compete in the United States’ EV market back in 2022 with the MX-30. Unfortunately, the MX-30 did not find success, as it was only sold in California. Americans didn’t like its cramped interior and underwhelming range. It ended up lasting only a year in the United States, so Mazda turned to China. However, Mazda hasn’t been having massive success there either, selling just 4,329 E-6 sedans from November 2024 to February 2025, reports Car News China.

According to Car News China, the price of the EZ-60 has not been revealed, although it’s predicted to be more expensive than the Deepal S07, which was priced at around $27,000 at its highest trim.
