The Stellantis-backed Leapmotor Lafa 5 (also known as Leapmotor B05) applied for a sales license in China, revealing core specs. It is an electric hatchback with a 4430-mm body, a 160 kW electric motor, and up to 605 km of range. The Leapmotor Lafa 5 made a global debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, aiming at global markets.
Leapmotor is a Chinese NEV maker partly acquired by Stellantis last year. The brand’s current model line comprises seven cars. From January to August 2025, this Chinese brand managed to sell 328,859 cars. On August 29, Leapmotor revealed its eighth model for global markets. It is the Lafa 5 hatchback. On September 10, core specs of this vehicle were exposed by the Chinese ministry during the homologation process.

The Leapmotor Lafa 5 aligns with the brand’s signature design language. Its front end adopts smooth headlights joined by an LED strip. A slanted bonnet, retractable door handles, and a low beltline boost the Lafa 5’s drag coefficient. Dimensions of the Leapmotor Lafa 5 are 4430/1880/1520 mm. The wheelbase reaches 2,735 mm. Approach and departure angles are 14 and 22 degrees, respectively.
The Lafa 5 rides on 19-inch wheels. Another feature of this model is an optional LiDAR sensor on the roof. The crossover’s curb weight lies in the range of 1,665 – 1,715 kg, depending on the modification. The Leapmotor Lafa 5 comes standard with a single TZ180XY005 electric motor from Leapmotor subsidiary Lingsheng Power Technology. Its peak power output reaches 160 kW (215 hp). The rated power is 70 kW (94 hp).
There is no information about the Leapmotor Lafa 5 battery capacity. However, the company previously disclosed that its newest hatchback will be available with two range variants. The entry-level model will offer an LFP battery pack for 515 km of range. The top-trim variant adopts an LFP pack for 605 km. The top speed of the Lafa 5 reaches 170 km/h.
