Chinese electric vehicle brands have been making a big splash in the car world, from BYD to Xiaomi.
In fact, there’s been an explosion of EV companies based in China in the last few years.
But a recent report released in the last few days has thrown an interesting wrench in the works.
Because some experts think that only 15 Chinese electric vehicle brands will survive by 2030.

Chinese electric vehicle brands storm the market
Chinese electric vehicle brands have turned the car market on its head this year.
2025 has seen Far East EV brands storm to the top of the industry.
In fact, the first half of 2025 has seen Chinese brand BYD become the best-selling EV in Europe.
It knocked Tesla off its perch in both the European and UK markets in a matter of weeks.
The success of brands such as BYD and Xiaomi has kickstarted an EV boom in China.

And it has led to trickle-down success for other brands such as Xiaomi and Xpeng.
Such rapid success may have unintended consequences, however.
An expert report released yesterday shared a startling trend for the EV market in China.
90 percent of Chinese EV brands expected to fold by 2030
The report, from consultancy firm AlixPartners, has noted an interesting trend in the market.
The top 15 Chinese electric vehicle brands account for around 75 percent of the Chinese EV industry.
Each of the top 15 Chinese electric vehicle brands is expected to account for sales of around 1.02 million vehicles each.
This level of success means that a very large majority of brands will likely be forced to fold.
Others will be consolidated and absorbed into some of the top 15 brands.

However, this consolidation and folding is expected to take longer than it would in other areas.
Local governments could continue to support non-viable brands for a variety of reasons.
Some could still be extremely important to their local economies and employment.
Will we see a reduction in the number of Chinese electric vehicle brands by 2030?
If the Chinese EV market continues on current trends, then it is very possible.
