In the first episode of ACEA’s new ‘#UpToSpeed’ video interview series, ACEA’s Sigrid de Vries sat down with Marc Alochet, a leading researcher from France’s prestigious École Polytechnique, for an in-depth discussion on how the global electric vehicle race is shaping up.
At a timely moment in Europe’s shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), the École Polytechnique recently published an eye-opening report comparing the electric vehicle regulatory framework in China, the US, and the EU.
In a one-on-one sit down with ACEA’s Director General, the report’s author confirmed that China and the US are racing ahead in their efforts to boost their domestic EV sectors, while the EU is at serious risk of falling behind.
Commenting on China’s holistic approach to the entire EV value chain and the US’s vast funding incentives, the author warned that the EU’s piecemeal approach to regulating specific value chains poses a fundamental risk to the competitiveness of this strategic sector for Europe.
