China’s sales data for the second week of April, released on Tuesday, showed BYD in the lead with over 50,000 vehicles (hybrids and fully electric), followed by Li Auto with 7,160 units. Among Li Auto’s sales, 260 were of the Li Auto Mega, its sole fully electric model.
In the latest sales data analysis for the week of April 8-14 in China, Tesla’s Model Y secured the third position with 4.7 thousand units sold behind both variants of BYD Song Plus. The Model Y contributed significantly to Tesla’s overall sales figure of 6,212 units, with the remaining 1,600 units attributed to the Model 3.

Among the best selling sedans, Xiaomi secured the first place with 2,394 units of the recently launched SU7 in the first complete week of production for the tech giant. The SU7 was officially unveiled on March 28th with the starting of the production on April 3rd.
The 001 Sedan from the Geely brand Zeekr followed closely with nearly the same units and Tesla‘s Model 3 ranked third with 1,600 units.
Nio’s compact sedan ET5 and its Touring variant ET5T collectively contributed 1,100 units to the total sales figure, while the entry-level SUV ES6 saw an increase to over 700 units, compared to 500 units in the preceding week.
The flagship SUV ES8 plus the ET7, EC7 and the ES7 achieved a total of slightly more than 300 units. Starting in March, the company initiated deliveries of its 2024 ES8, ES6, EC7, EC6, and ET5T models, showcasing enhanced configuration and performance, notably highlighted by the upgraded Center Computing Cluster.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer Li Auto reported over 700 units of its forthcoming SUV L6, set for official unveiling on Thursday, April 18th. All other hybrid models experienced an uptick from the previous week, a trend attributed to China’s recent three-day holiday. However, Li Mega, the company’s inaugural fully electric model, accounted for over 260 units, down from 410 in the previous week.

Notably, the smaller SUV G6 experienced the most significant surge from the previous week, surpassing 400 units in sales. Conversely, the brand’s iconic sedan, the P7, introduced in 2020, accounted for a more modest 260 units.

Last week, Xpeng revealed its strategy to counter lower-than-anticipated sales by introducing a more affordable variant of its G6 SUV last week. The company unveiled the G6 580 Plus, priced at RMB 199,900 ($27,630), marking a reduction of RMB 10,000, or 4.76 percent, from the previous lowest-priced G6 580 Pro, which was priced at RMB 209,900.
In the second week of April, passenger car sales totaled 310,000 units, with traditional vehicles accounting for 164,000 units and new energy vehicles comprising 146,000 units. The penetration rate for new energy vehicles during this period was 47%.
