Major electric vehicle (EV) makers mostly saw increases in insurance registrations in China last week as early-month weakness subsided.

During the week of September 8-14, week 37 of 2025, Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) recorded 6,170 vehicle insurance registrations in China, down 1.59 percent from the previous week’s 6,270 units, according to figures shared today on Weibo by multiple automotive industry observers.

The Nio main brand recorded 2,425 insurance registrations last week, down 4.15 percent from 2,530 the previous week.

Its sub-brand Onvo registered 2,620 vehicles last week, a 1.13 percent decrease from 2,650 the prior week. This includes 2,050 units of the L90 large SUV and 570 units of the L60 mid-size SUV.

Firefly’s insurance registrations totaled 1,125 units last week, a 3.21 percent increase from the previous week’s 1,090 units.

Nio Inc delivered a record 31,305 vehicles in August, comprising 10,525 units for the Nio main brand, 16,434 units for Onvo, and 4,346 units for Firefly.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) recorded 15,350 insurance registrations in China last week, a 7.34 percent increase from the previous week’s 14,300.

This includes 9,460 Model Y SUVs, 1,030 Model Y L six-seat SUVs, and 4,860 Model 3 sedans.

Tesla’s August retail sales in China totaled 57,152 units, down 9.93 percent from 63,456 units in the same period last year, though up 40.71 percent from July’s 40,617 units, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) recorded 8,130 insurance registrations last week, a 21.34 percent increase from the previous week’s 6,700 units.

It delivered a record 37,709 vehicles in August, marking a 168.66 percent year-on-year increase and a 2.70 percent rise from July.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) recorded 8,070 insurance registrations last week, a 32.30 percent increase from the previous week’s 6,100 units.

This includes 1,260 units of the newly launched Li i8 electric SUV.

The company delivered 28,529 vehicles in August, a 40.72 percent year-on-year decline marking its third consecutive month of significant year-on-year contraction, while also falling 7.17 percent from July.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) brand vehicles recorded 64,820 insurance registrations last week, a 24.58 percent increase from the previous week’s 52,030.

The company sold 373,626 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in August, marking a 0.15 percent year-on-year increase and an 8.52 percent rise from July.

This includes 5,170 units of the Xiaomi SU7 sedan series and 4,620 units of the YU7 SUV.

Xiaomi EV delivered 36,396 vehicles in August, surpassing the 30,000-unit mark for the second consecutive month following July’s 30,452 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) brand recorded 3,200 insurance registrations last week, down 3.03 percent from the previous week’s 3,300 units.

Zeekr Group delivered 44,843 vehicles in August, marking a 10.61 percent year-on-year increase and a 1.47 percent rise from July.

The Zeekr brand delivered 17,626 vehicles in August, down 2.16 percent year-on-year but up 3.82 percent from July.

Lynk & Co delivered 27,217 vehicles in August, up 20.81 percent year-on-year and flat from July’s 27,216 units.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) recorded 13,020 insurance registrations last week, a 20.56 percent increase from the previous week’s 10,800.

Aito — the brand jointly developed by Huawei and Seres Group — recorded 8,600 insurance registrations last week, a 16.22 percent increase from the previous week’s 7,400 units.
