China’s EV giant BYD has a wild new car carrier – it’s the world’s largest, with enough parking spaces to fill 20 football fields.

The new vessel is set to sail this month and will carry an almost unimaginable cargo.

The ship is also green with energy-efficient features to match the company’s EVs.

So, what else can we tell you about it?

BYD has already achieved great things

Chinese EV company BYD is taking the EV world by storm.

In fact, it recently revealed that it is set to build a megafactory so big it will outsize San Francisco, and a recent launch from the automaker unveiled two 1,100HP EVs in China that can charge up to 248 miles of range in five minutes.

But, now even more greatness has come to fruition with a new car carrier set to take the world by storm.

Meet Shenzhen, the cargo giant from BYD

The ship is called Shenzhen, and the figures speak for themselves.

The vessel undertook its first stint on the seas on April 27, transporting EVs to Brazil.

It has 9,200 loading spaces and 16 decks, with a speed of 19 knots. It’s a big ship, coming in with a length of 219.9 metres, and it is described by the company as the ‘world’s largest car carrier currently in operation’.

The company posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo: “The maiden voyage carried more than 7,000 new energy vehicles to Brazil, the largest single batch of new energy vehicles exported in China.”

The company also stated why it’s called Shenzhen, explaining that it means ‘BYD’s determination to take root in the city of innovation and lead the global green transportation’.

The company claims that it also proves the ‘internationalization process of China’s new energy vehicle industry from manufacturing to technology, from products to services’.

Furthermore, the ship is eco-friendly, which means it has an ‘efficient energy-saving main engine’ with other emission-reducing features.

It’s not the company’s first voyage

BYD has some other vessels too.

The BYD Hefei and BYD Changzhou have also made their way across the sea in recent months, with Shenzhen being the ‘fourth professional car carrier operated by BYD”.

Shenzhen’s voyage to Brazil means the expansion of the EV brand overseas continues at a pace.

Not only does the company have Brazil on its list of countries to conquer, but other European countries and Japan are reportedly on the horizon too, with growth expected.
