Undisguised images of BYD‘s new flagship SUV have surfaced online today, January 27th. The vehicle, sporting a “Great Tang” badge on its license plate area, is believed to be the previously teased Tang 9 Series – BYD’s new D-segment flagship SUV.

The leaked photos reveal a vehicle adopting BYD’s latest family design language, featuring a striking through-type LED daytime running light coupled with vertical headlamps that give the SUV a commanding presence befitting a flagship model.

At the rear, the vehicle showcases a connected taillight design. Upon closer inspection, a “4.9S” badge is clearly visible, suggesting the new model will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

It’s parked at a megawatt charging station.

The presence of the Tang 9 at a second-generation megawatt flash charging station, coupled with “Great Tang” and “4.9s” badges on its rear, suggests it is built on the BYD Super e-platform.

Being built on the Super e-platform suggests that Tang 9 would have megawatt flash charging and a 30,000 rpm motor. Furthermore, early tests of camouflaged prototypes indicate that the Datang will be the first BYD model to feature rear-wheel steering technology.

The Tang 9 appears to be a full‑size flagship aiming at rivals like the Aito M9 and Li Auto L9. It is significantly larger than current Tang models: length reportedly over 5.2 m and wheelbase over 3.1 m, placing it in full‑size SUV territory.

From its acceleration time, the vehicle is expected to use a three‑motor layout (one front, two rear), producing over 500 kW (~670+ hp).

The Tang 9 Series was officially announced during BYD’s second Dynasty Festival event on January 10th, alongside the Han 9 Series. Both flagship models are currently undergoing a public naming campaign, with “Great Tang” appearing to be a frontrunner for the SUV. BYD has confirmed both vehicles will be officially launched in the first half of this year.
