The BYD’s Denza B8 large SUV scored five stars in the ANCAP crash and safety evaluation test. The new model demonstrated good protection across most scenarios. The Denza B8 sells domestically under the Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 8 (Bao 8) name.

The Denza B8 entered the Chinese market as the FCB Leopard 8 in November 2024 with a starting price of 379,800 yuan (54,970 USD). It is a 5.2-meter off-roader with a ground clearance of up to 310 mm and a plug-in hybrid system with a combined peak power of 550 kW (738 hp) in China. Recently, this car became available for order in Australia with six- and seven-seat interior layout variants.

Denza B8 ANCAP results

The Denza B8 earned five stars in the ANCAP crash test. It scored highest in the Child Occupant Protection segment – 95%. The car’s protection was good in frontal offset and side impact tests. However, the B8 lost some points because the top tethers aren’t available in the third row seats. As a result, installation of child restraints in the third row isn’t recommended.

The Adult Occupant Protection segment got 86%. The driver’s neck and chest protection was adequate during the full-width frontal impact. However, during the oblique pole test, protection was marginal. The Vulnerable Road Users category earned 75% safety due to mixed results recorded on the stiff windscreen pillars, the base of the windscreen, and the front edge of the bonnet surface. Protection of the pelvis was mostly poor.

Last but not least, the Denza B8 got 78% in the Safety Assist segment. The car showed overall good performance in AEB (Autonomous Emergency Brake) tests. However, the car doesn’t intervent the driving process when the driver is distracted, fatigued, or unresponsive. Its LDW (Lane Departure Warning) system also failed in the ANCAP tests.
