The BYD Yangwang U9 electric supercar has made its first appearance in the United States, arriving in Miami as part of a temporary visit that marks the model’s debut in the Western Hemisphere. The high-performance EV, developed by China-based automaker BYD under its Yangwang sub-brand, represents a significant moment as emerging manufacturers continue to challenge traditional supercar and hypercar players.

The U9 has already drawn attention globally for its claimed performance achievements, including record-setting top speed and Nürburgring lap times for an electric vehicle. The Miami appearance was shared publicly by entrepreneur and social media influencer Richard Skelhorn, who documented the car’s journey and presence in the city. The vehicle was originally purchased in August from Shanghai and later shipped to Dubai, where it is registered. From there, it traveled to the United States and will remain in the country for a limited 12-month period before returning to its registered home.
During its brief stay, the U9 has been used to demonstrate some of its standout engineering features. One such highlight is BYD’s DiSus-X suspension system, which allows the car to actively control ride height and body movement. This system enables a feature known as “Jump Mode,” where the vehicle can lift itself off the ground using its advanced suspension technology.
Technically, the Yangwang U9 is built on BYD’s e4 platform, utilizing a quad-motor layout with independent control at each wheel. This configuration supports advanced torque vectoring and stability management. Power figures vary by specification, with outputs ranging from approximately 1,300 horsepower to more than 3,000 horsepower in the U9 Xtreme configuration. Energy is supplied by BYD’s Blade Battery, designed to support ultra-fast charging.
Together, these elements position the Yangwang U9 as a clear statement of intent, signaling BYD’s long-term ambitions within the elite electric performance segment.
