BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw further growth in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales last month, with overseas sales continuing to hit a new record high.
The company sold 380,089 NEVs in April, up 21.34 percent year-on-year and up 0.71 percent from March, according to figures it released today.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to a focus on producing plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
BYD’s NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with sales of passenger NEVs totaling 372,615 units in April, an increase of 19.41 percent year-on-year and up 0.32 percent from March.
BYD’s commercial NEVs sold 7,474 units in April, the second consecutive month of record highs. That’s up 524.39 percent year-on-year and up 24.55 percent from March.
Among passenger NEVs, BEVs sold 195,740 units in April, up 45.57 percent year-on-year and up 17.84 percent from March.
BYD sold 176,875 passenger PHEVs in April, down 0.40 percent year-on-year and down 13.85 percent from March.
The company sold 79,086 NEVs overseas in April, its fifth consecutive record month. That’s up 92.84 percent year-on-year and up 8.75 percent from March.
In addition to being China’s largest NEV company, BYD is also the country’s second-largest power battery maker.
BYD’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 26.478 GWh in April, up 110.83 percent year-on-year and up 30.13 percent from March.
BYD’s car sales target for 2025 is 5.5 million units, including more than 800,000 in overseas markets, according to local media.
