BYD secures third All-of-Government contract, more than 3,800 vehicles delivered

Ateco Automotive NZ, the importer and distributor of BYD vehicles in New Zealand, has secured the third-generation All-of-Government (AoG) contract, reaffirming BYD as the top supplier of battery electric vehicles under the scheme, with over 3,800 units already delivered to government agencies.

The importer and distributor says it marks a major milestone in its public sector presence.

“AoG fleet is a considerable portion of our business, and we are extremely proud to be a supplier,” Ateco Automotive NZ general manager Warren Willmot says.

“We’ve set up BYD with a ‘fleet first’ mentality — when everyday consumers see trusted organisations like New Zealand Blood Service, KiwiRail, Fire and Emergency NZ, Ministry of Education New Zealand, and Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities using BYD, it reinforces the quality and reliability of our vehicles,” he says.

The renewed contract strengthens BYD’s growing footprint in New Zealand’s EV market, with Ateco highlighting its ongoing commitment to sustainability and fleet functionality.

Ateco says it looks forward to continuing its work with public agencies as New Zealand accelerates its shift to cleaner transport.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) recently released the latest list of vehicle brands approved for purchase under the third-generation AoG motor vehicles contract, with a more electrified and diversified offering now available

Effective from July 1, the 2025 AoG panel features 17 brands, including a wave of new entrants reflecting the changing face of the New Zealand vehicle market.
