BYD Cars Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility, announced the local launch of the Tang DM-i seven-seater plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) on September 17, 2025. The vehicle is the largest SUV in BYD’s local electrified lineup, positioned to bring the brand’s Super DM-i technology to the family vehicle segment in the Philippines.

The introduction of the Tang DM-i is part of BYD’s continued expansion into Southeast Asian markets, prioritizing the deployment of its advanced PHEV systems. The DM-i platform emphasizes high efficiency and extended electric range, which differentiates it from conventional hybrid setups.

Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, provided context for the launch, stating, “With the introduction of the all-new BYD Tang DM-i, we are expanding our Super DM-i lineup to address the diverse needs of Filipino families.”

DM-i Powertrain & Efficiency Focus

The BYD Tang DM-i utilizes the Super DM-i system, which features a turbocharged internal combustion engine that primarily acts as an onboard generator, working alongside an electric motor and a 21.5 kWh Blade battery. This configuration aims to maximize electric driving while offering long-distance capability. The system delivers a total output of and of torque, enabling a acceleration time of . Key range figures for the vehicle include on pure electric power, with a total combined range exceeding in PHEV mode.

Regarding charging, the Blade battery can be replenished from  to  in a rapid via DC fast charging. AC charging allows the battery to go from  to  in approximately three hours. Furthermore, the inclusion of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality adds notable utility, enabling the vehicle to power external electrical equipment.

Onboard Technology & Driver Assistance

The interior of the seven-seater e-SUV focuses on practicality and technology. The main interface is a rotating touchscreen display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is paired with a Dynaudio sound system.

Safety and driver assistance are managed by the BYD DiPilot system, a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This suite includes core safety features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and a camera system, effectively placing the vehicle in the Level 2 assisted driving category.

BYD Cars Philippines has set the price for the new Tang DM-i at P, (. The model will be offered in three colors: Moonstone Gray, Pearl White, and Silver Sand Black.

In a move to reinforce customer confidence, the company is providing substantial warranty coverage, which is a critical detail for the EV-aware consumer. This includes or for the Blade Battery, or for the electric motor and control systems, and a or new vehicle warranty.
