BYD is planning to open 2,000 dealerships across Europe by the end of 2026, as the Chinese carmaker gears up to seriously challenge the competition.
BYD is a relatively new player when it comes to the automotive industry.
It was founded in 2003 and introduced its first car a year later.
However, in recent years, it’s enjoyed impressive success and sales growth.

BYD has announced ambitious European plans
Earlier this year, BYD had a ‘watershed moment’ when it surpassed rival Tesla in European sales, and last month it outsold the US carmaker sevenfold in the UK.
With the company seemingly going from strength to strength, BYD bosses have announced ambitious plans, including setting itself a goal of 1.5 million overseas sales next year, compared to around one million in 2025.

To help make that happen, BYD regional managing director for Europe Maria Grazia Davino said it will be doubling its dealerships in Europe next year.
“By the end of 2025, we will be present with 1,000 points of sale in Europe, and next year we’re going to double [that],” Davino said.
“In line with successful competitors, we need to have proximity and win proximity to the European customers.”
Back in September, the Chinese carmaker said it planned to produce all of its EVs for the European market in Europe by 2028.
And is poised to open its first production plant in Hungary, which will be its first in Europe.
Although the Hungarian facility is yet to open, BYD is already planning a second factory, this time in Turkey, and is considering a third, possibly in Spain, according to a new report from Reuters.
The carmaker has tripled its sale in Europe this year
The Chinese carmaker going big when it comes to Europe should come as little surprise.

Until fairly recently, it only sold its all-electrics in the European market, but late last year it introduced some of its plug-in hybrids, which has resulted in a surge in sales.
The company managed to more than triple its sales in Europe during the first nine months of 2025 compared to the same time last year, with more than 80,000 sold.
It now plans to release another three or four hybrids into the market.
In an interview with Reuters, executive vice president Stella Li said that in the next one or two years BYD’s plug-in hybrids will be ‘dominating sales’ in Europe and outselling its EV offerings.
