BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) has launched the Sealion 07 electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) in Nepal, continuing its expansion in overseas markets.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker rolled out the Sealion 07 in Nepal on July 24, renaming it Sealion 7 locally, in line with its approach in other overseas markets.
The starting price for the Sealion 07 in Nepal is 7.499 million Nepalese rupees ($53,620).
The electric SUV is BYD’s sixth model available in Nepal and its fourth pure electric vehicle in the country, according to a statement released by BYD today.
Currently, the models displayed on the website of BYD’s distributor in Nepal, Cimex Inc, include the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and M6 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). The Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China.
BYD launched its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology platform, e-Platform 3.0 Evo, in China on May 10, 2024, along with the first model based on this platform, the Sealion 07 EV.
Currently, the Sealion 07 series is available in China as the all-electric Sealion 07 EV and the hybrid Sealion 07 DM-i, with the former starting at RMB 189,800 ($26,390).
BYD began exploring the Nepalese market several years ago. In 2018, the BYD e6 was added to the Nepalese presidential fleet.
In October 2022, BYD officially entered the Nepalese passenger vehicle market, with the Atto 3 as its first model available locally.
BYD Group sold 382,585 NEVs in June, up 11.98 percent year-on-year and 0.03 percent month-on-month, according to data released on July 1.
